Hi Kerry :D

Yes it was really lazy and very relaxing.I've been sold several times for many many camels by my friend as Egyptian men seem to have a thing for me.I have had 2 declarations of undying love

There was quite possibly the fattest woman in England in a bikini at our hotel. It was quite revolting.I will post a photo later  It will make your eyes bleed.

I've always been more of a night owl that a daytime person.

I do need to get my sleeping pattern sorted as I most defiantly have to get back to work next week. I should have really gone today but there being wankers over given me holidays to cover my lectures on Monday and Tuesday. I don't understand why as they can either give me the holiday that I'm entitled for two days or I will have to stay off a further 4 days to continue with it as sick leave that they will have to pay me sick pay for so that I can go.

I'm handing my notice in next week any way so screw them.

our landlord in one of our flats at uni owned a couple of corner shops, and was storing one of those refrigerated drinks things in the lounge of the flat when we looked round it.

needless to say, we got him to leave it there. nowt better than having about 9 chilled crates of beer in the corner of your lounge. :D

It's the safe way to go. If you only drink at pubs and don't want to become an alcoholic you just stop going to pubs. It's easy to quantify. Drink at home and then you have to stop going home to stop the alcoholism. Stop going home and you become homeless. Become homeless and you'll be stuck on the White Lightning for the rest of your life. :( It's a downward spiral.

Just finished watching 'You Only Live Twice', love how the it tied in with a past Bond ('From Russia With Love') - something we're used to seeing now but pretty much unheard of back in the mid 60's. It was the first time i'd seen this one in particular, and another one that trumps 'Goldfinger' in my eyes. I'm in the mindset of some writer back in the 60's with visions of grandeur for the future - the thought behind that hollowed out volcano is fucking amazing.

Going through the Bond's one by one (pun!) makes me realise just how heavily they're ripped off in other films.

(yeah, i feel dirty for not watching 'Thunderball' seeing as it's the next in the order, but i forgot to pick it up when i was out earlier)

i actually watched (the much maligned) die another day today and couldn't help but laugh at the amount of opportunities given to both bond and jinx to escape/fight back and the elaborate ways chosen to try and dispose of them instead of just shooting them in the face. it makes the austin powers films all the more enjoyable when he points out nameless henchmen and the like.

Dr. Evil: Scott, I want you to meet daddy's nemesis, Austin Powers

Scott Evil: What? Are you feeding him? Why don't you just kill him?

Dr. Evil: I have an even better idea. I'm going to place him in an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate and exotic death.

Exactly, everyone always mentions the money but, in my opinion as someone playing gigs, I get such a buzz from playing a song, seeing a head bob along to a riff that I wrote, seeing maybe the odd person (ie, Kat :o) sing along now and then, it's such a good feeling. Anyone who would rather get paid than feel that is a cunt.

Anyone, anyone at all can learn to copy other people - it takes real talent to break out and do it yourself. I could write down a 2hr setlist of Foo songs that I can play right fucking now and I bet I could get another guitarist, bass player (ookers ;)) and drummer too. We could have a "tribute" band ready to gig in a few months... but what's the fucking point?! I'd sooner spend those months finishing the new song I'm doing!

I fucking hate them too. What's the point? If you like the band, you want to see the original band, not some sheite wannabes. As fucking lame as a gorilla with no teeth... or something

Innit.

I was looking at Foo tributes before and this one band actually proclaimed something along the lines of "for a more authentic show, we even use the exact same equipment!" For a start, it was out of date (HA!!) and secondly, so what? Not only do you have no integrity or musical talent of your own, but you're willing to piss away thousands upon thousands of pounds on doing so?

Your loss, greasestains.

Two-Bob Peeters

I can't be doing with Tribute Bands - they do seem fairly pointless. But like Ookie said, there's a whole lot of money in it. Look at some of the bigger ones. They're constantly touring, and they appeal to the upper middle aged people with no real music taste who happen to have money.

Captain Stu
December 7th 2007, 10:59 AM
The only one that has ever, ever intrigued me... is the Australian Pink Floyd band because I've spoken to someone who has seen them and the real Floyd and they said if you close your eyes, there is zero difference.

I would never want to pay money to hear someone singing someone elses songs... even if it was a band I'll never, ever get the chance to see like Floyd, Nirvana, Hendrix, etc...

the only real band they've treated us to in about 15 years is Electric Six, every other friday and saturday they have the same 10 tribute bands on rotation, must amusing recently they had an Arctic monkeys tribute act!

Precisely. I don't even want to see bands on a "reunion tour," especially if one of them has gone tits up. Never the same, always bad. I don't care if the next guy's voice is better. I don't care if it's John Bonham's son. It's not 1974 and I'm not buying it. *digs in heels*

i don't even understand why this place books tribute acts, you pay to get in the club, not to see the band, so it'll be the same for any type of band, if you dont wanna see them you go to a different floor for different music. so surely the club gets the same entrance money regardless, cos noone goes there specifically to see a tribute band.

when i went theere and the 'faux fighters' were on there was literally 12 of us watching them

in fact the club would get more money booking real unsigned bands cos they'd get away with paying them les to play

I guess i don't mind tribute acts that don't take themselves seriously, don't tour and just play the odd pub gig and have a proper original band. It's these professional acts that are seriously dedicated to it, tour proper venues and charge standard small band prices that are shit.

If you have musical talent, use it with some original music, don't rip off another band that you will never be.

No way. The Police had to take the cake. They could barely get through a set without spitting on each other. SO glad I sold my tickets.

That is true. Something about how Dave is their life idol who they look up to and respect, and just want to show their gratitude to his brilliant band. Or some shite like that.

Urgh the Led Zep reunion thing has pissed me right off too. XFM/Planet Rock were running that comp to win tickets, so I thought I'd give it a go cos my Dad would absolutely LOVE to go. There was a free way to enter online so I naturally chose that option rather than the 50p per text. I entered shitloads, it was one of those reverse auction things, anyway, yesterday I got a text back saying that I had been accidentally charged for entering and someone would contact me regarding a refund. Planet Rock phoned me up and told me that I'd be charged £3 (not sure where they came up with that amount) and that I could either have it back in the form of a cheque, or I could opt out of the refund and just donate the money to the charity. I was so fucking pissed off. They made me feel like a right chump asking for a cheque for £3 - so I didn't!!! I'm so annoyed with myself for being led like that! Of course they phone you from a private number so you can't ring them back AND also if they do that to every person who entered, they end up with a shit load of money. I have no idea what charity they're donating it to or anything. I am such an idiot!!! Damn you Led Zep and your goddamn reunion!

Take That can fuck off, bunch of talentless poofters, especially in light of fat-boy Robbie Williams looking to finally rejoin them. I grew up listening to Zepp. For me they are THE band. I don't care what anyone says, after all, music is about what does it for you, and this does it for me.

Although I grew up listening to Zepp, I was a little bit too young to see them at their prime, afterall I as born in 1970.

Having said all this I don't think I would like to see them now. Given the chance in the 70's then yes, but now I think it would just shatter my dreams of seeing my ultimate rock band that I grew up loving. Wheeling them on for a set of classics that Plant can't do anymore is about the same as goinf to see a copycat band, fucking pointless.
