I didn't see a thread for this yet, so I thought I'd go ahead and post this. Apparently Rolling Stone got an advanced listen to the new record, here's what they had to say:

Album Preview: The Foo Fighters’ Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

Live Earth hero Dave Grohl has mentioned Steely Dan as a big influence on the Foo Fighters during the making of their sixth album, and after an advance listen to September 25’s Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, we know why: Echoes has a distinct ’70s-rock undercurrent. There are sonic references to early-’70s Zeppelin, late-era Beatles and Bruce Springsteen tossed throughout the otherwise typically loud, brawny and stadium-ready power tunes.

Opening track and likely lead single “The Pretender” is a classic Foos tune — all tight, urgent structure building to expansive, choral crescendos. We’re big fans of the more mellow, magnificently Springsteen-like summer jam “Long Road to Ruin” and the spare, almost confessional “Stranger Things Have Happened.” Other noteworthy tracks include “The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners” (an instrumental Grohl wrote and put on the album, as promised, for two men who were trapped in a goldmine in Tasmania earlier this year) and “But Honestly” and “Home,” the last two tracks on the album, which feature Grohl playing piano for the first time ever on a Foo Fighters record.

people just feel the need to compain about practically every aspect. i personally am not fussed about the title, but ive not felt the need to express that cause theres no point. just gonna take it for what it is and hopefully enjoy the music when it comes :)

It's an interesting album title, I like it though. From what the music appears to sound like so far, it sounds like it fits it very well. Has a very 70s classic rock/prog feel to it.

I think It´s gonna bumb TINLTL from my second place of fave Foo albums, cause I´m a big fan of Led Zep, Beatles and Springsteen.

You know the more I hear about the album, from the title to the song list and now this article's description of them, the more I'm thinking that there's a story being told here and it's all about a personal journey of some kind. Kinda reminiscent of TCATS that way. Can't wait to hear it all.

I'll give the album a fair shot as the foo's have managed to prove before that they're well capable of creating a great album, despite the last two albums. Even then, i can listen to them, they're just not my favorites.

Actually only one of the two miners met dave and drank w/ him ... the other refused Dave's offer to come to the show and meet w/ him, stating that he isn't much of a foo fan. But the story remains ... the miner asked Dave to put it on the album and Dave agreed.

Of course they didn't have to put the track on. It's the foos choice, not yours. Personally I'm glad they included it, as I really like the live version and can't wait to see how different it will now be as I think this one has another guest guitarist on it as well.

"Steely Dan" are amazingly talented guys, and the music the made was very much ahead of it's time. There's loads of stuff by these guys on YouTube, so I strongly recommend to anybody to type in "Steely Dan" and take a look at a few things that crop up...

I like what I've heard of Steely Dan. Songs like Peg & Hey Nineteen are pretty good. Still I don't see where you get that their songs were "ahead of it's time" ... I put it in the same category as The Eagles, definitely not ahead of it's time, but appropriate for the 1970's.
