Hey

Wondering if anyone has a couple of songs the Foo's recorded @ the BBC (i think it was in 1995), "Floaty" and "Alone & Easy Target." Muchas gracias :D

Does anyone know of all the songs the Foo's have recorded at the BBC? Here's what I can think of:
Alone & Easy Target
Floaty
Gas Chamber
Winnebago>>Wattershed (pretty cool)
Friend of a Friend
possibly the 1997 era covers, like Baker Street, Drive Me Wild, but I'm not sure about those .. anyone else?

Wern't some of the BBC sessions on the "Big me" single?

Yea, the BBC Sessions were on many singles, including "Big Me". Ah yea, I forgot about Up In Arms. They recorded it at a middle pace for the entire song, it sounds very different. I'll see if I can dig that up. Still looking for "Alone & Easy Target" & "Floaty", anyone?? :D

The fact that they are named in that way says to me that I might have the rest in a folder somewhere and that they are out there somewhere recorded by the same person. I will have to check to see if I have them.

I hope these are allowed.

Are these two on any singles? I know Floaty, Gas Chamber and Alone+Easy Target are on the Big Me single.

A+ET, Floaty, and Gas Chamber were released on the European Big Me single. How I Miss You and Up In Arms are unreleased.

No version of Butterflies has ever been released, nor was it ever recorded for the BBC. Two versions of the song have surfaced: a Dave solo version recorded for the first album (the only song not released from that session), and a version recorded at Bob Lang's studio in 1996 with the whole original lineup featuring Pat on backing vocals.

Butterflies (Live BBC 1995).mp3 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/6bh36v)
That's the Dave solo from the first album session 1994.

So it's basically a demo? I thought when I heard it it sounded like the demo I also have and didn't think it was recorded for the BBC. Thanks for the info. I'll ammend the upload.

Thanks I'll amend that too! It's a shame people mislabel things. I got these tracks from a torrent called 'The Leftovers' and clearly the person who put the collection together doesn't have a clue.

Also, you do know that live versions of butterflies have surfaced? There are two electric that I know of and one acoustic.

Oh, there are tons of live versions. It was played at virtually every live show from '95 to '96. I must have ten or so live versions from every '95 and '96 live show I have on cassette.

Is Friend of a Friend from '97 still a BBC session?

Yeah, it's from this session:

BBC 1997
Requiem
Drive Me Wild
Friend of a Friend
Baker Street

This is notable also for being the very first Taylor Hawkins session. The band recorded this right after Taylor joined.

Nope. The first two songs are exactly the same, the Dave Grohl solo version from '94. Listen to them. It's the same track, though one's a little more "bassy" than the other, they are definitely the same version that's on my Foo Fighters album demo tape.

Well

The first one is 3:17, and the 2nd one is 2:55

And the first one is in a lower key than the 2nd.

Someone could have messed with the speed of the song, if they are infact the same. Dunno why anyone would do such a thing, though.

I noticed that, too, and that's weird, but it really is the same song. I have one version of Butterflies, the one that surfaced with the Mountain of You demo which is in fact sped up a bit. Why, I don't know, but that version was copied to CD from a cassette tape, so that may have something to do with it.

Audio manipulation. One of em is sped up or slowed down. I'd have to listen to each to figure out which one was the right one (or fetch my mp3 player from the car and then find it amongst a few thousand files) but when you fuck with the tempo of a recording to make it faster or slower, the pitch gets warped too.

It's the alvin and the chipmunks effect. Whether it was someone doing it intentionally to try and fool people or if it was a mistake made when trying to encode the file or a mistake made trying to clean up and improve the sound quality of it, I can't really say for sure.

It's like if you take an record (vinyl ones, I mean) and play it at 45 rpm when it's supposed to be 30 rpm or vice versa (though not really as dramatic)
