They might be looking to Sidwell as a long-term replacement for Makalele.
That's what I thought, Makalelelelelelele's been very shit and piss this season while Sidwell was damn, damn fine.
If he cemented a place though, 3 out of Chelsea's 5 midfielders would be Engrish.
And now the news, beep beep!

Juventus look set to beat Rangers in the race to sign Bayern Munich's Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro (Record).
Bayern Munich want Arsenal's Robin van Persie (Mirror).
Wenger'd be a chump to let him go, can't see it happening.
Benfica are interested in Bolton striker El-Hadji Diouf (Mirror).
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
West Ham are poised to make an £8m offer for Barcelona's Eidur Gudjohnsen, but Manchester United and Sunderland are also interested (Express).
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate says he is "hamstrung" over possible summer signings until Mark Viduka decides whether he is staying or not (Times).
Birmingham, Stoke, Preston and Burnley are interested in Kris Commons after he rejected a new contract at Nottingham Forest (Sun).
Hermann Hreidarsson could join Portsmouth on a free transfer after a clause in his contract allowed him to leave Charlton following their relegation (Sun).
Tottenham have beaten Lyon in the race to sign France U21 captain Younes Kaboul from Auxerre (Mail).
OTHER GOSSIP
The London Development Agency has given its support to West Ham's plans for a new 60,000-seater ground next to West Ham tube station (Mirror).
Wham couldn't fucking fill a 60,000 seater stadium if they shook White Hart Lane in too. Wankers.
West Brom captain Curtis Davies has ruled out the possibility of a shock return from a broken foot in time for the play-off final (Guardian).
Up to 5,000 seats at the Champions League final will be left empty because of the size of advertising hoardings used at the stadium (Times).
Duncan Revie has decided against tabling a bid for Leeds (Times).
Former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock says he is "very disappointed" at plc chairman Kevin McCabe's comment that he was not good enough to keep them in the Premiership (Sun).
Warnock, Nigel Worthington and Martin Allen are on the short-list to be Leicester's new manager (Sun).

... it's on the up now though. I'm made up fo' the lad, and it's good news for England seeing as how inept Lennon is.
It's been very touch and go with his career to be honest. He deserved to be playing permanent first team football for the past couple of years, but instead he's had to make do with bench after bench after bench. I wonder how good he'd be now if he'd had regular starts.
Wenger'd be a chump to let him go, can't see it happening.
I'd actually be more gutted at Van P leaving than Thierry at the moment, even though I'd resume plans for my one woman picketline outside the Emirates if either of them looked to be going.
Wham couldn't fucking fill a 60,000 seater stadium if they shook White Hart Lane in too. Wankers.
No, but it's not going to do future World Cup bids no harm if we've got another good stadium in the capital, is it.
Up to 5,000 seats at the Champions League final will be left empty because of the size of advertising hoardings used at the stadium (Times).
And this is why UEFA are fuckers. (again...)
Warnock, Nigel Worthington and Martin Allen are on the short-list to be Leicester's new manager (Sun).
Would be happy with Allen. Apparently, MK Dons have given Leicester permission to talk to him, so it could be on the cards. He's done well as a manager in a rebuilding kind of sense, so he could be just what Leicester needs. I'm not sure about Warnock. He'd be good, and traditionally, he and Leicester hate each other. He wouldn't be the popular choice.
Uefa says the new Wembley does not incorporate many of its requirements to stage a Champions League final, despite two meetings during construction to explain what they are (Times).
Hmmm... I could see a CL final there no bother. Can't see what the fuss is about.

Arsenal are not going to take up the option to turn Julio Baptista's loan deal from Real Madrid into a permanent move, the Brazilian attacking midfielder has said.
"Arsenal have told me they are not able to buy me and so all I can do is return to Real Madrid," Baptista told sports daily Marca on Thursday, in a telephone interview from New York.
The 25-year-old international moved to London last August in a one-year loan swap, with Arsenal's Jose Antonio Reyes moving in the opposite direction.
The deal included an option for the clubs to buy the respective players at the end of the season but neither man has consistently impressed during the loan period.
"I have enjoyed my season with Arsenal and in England. I adapted well. I didn't play much at first but finished much better. The first year is very difficult," Baptista said.
"The English league is very strong and very competitive with great teams. Manchester United and Chelsea are very strong and it is difficult to compete against their great squads."
In Baptista's absence, Real have come from behind to grab first place in the Primera Liga and with three games left are on course for their first major trophy in four seasons.
"I speak a lot with Robinho and Roberto Carlos and I have wished them all the best for the league. If I am honest I am a little jealous I can't be with them playing for the title," he said.
"I am keen to know what happens in the last three games and hope they go on to win."
Baptista joined Real from Sevilla two years ago in a deal worth $24.2 million (12.2 million pounds) but failed to make it into coach Fabio Capello's plans when he took over last July.
What?! You were fucking shit!! You can't pass, you're a goal-hanger and so horrendously slow that it numbs the brain!
Oh and not mentioning us? Prick.

Unfortunately in England the majority of players are also very physical and Baptista loses his edge.

He generally is, ok, sometimes he gets a bit animated and his voice gets a squeaky excitement running through it whilst berrating some noddy, but he's usually fair and gives callers a chance to air their views and to respond to what he says. Except when he does that 'say something narky then cut them off' type thing :D

Manchester United will offer £27.5m plus £11m-rated Louis Saha for Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov. (Sun)
With what Berby did last season compared to Saha, that's a bad bad deal. Saha's a fucking injury concern.
Liverpool's summer transfer hitlist includes Samuel Eto'o, Carlos Tevez, Daniel Alves and Gabriel Milito. (Sun)
I know think we're going to sign TWO forwards as well so a poacher like Eto'o or Villa compared to a sit-deep creative forward like Tevez makes sort of sense. A Mirror columnist made a good point on SSN this morning - the reason Rafa didn't change is that he obviously feels he had his best players on the pitch and didn't have anything on the bench that was that good to come on and change a European Cup final and, if you think about it, it makes sense.

I think the only way we would need Beckham back is this: Gerrard is put back into the middle and Crouch is a starter up front. Beckham's one and only skill of being able to cross/hit a dead ball is ideal for someone like Crouch... but when Owen's fit, it's going to be him and Rooney up front again even though they've proven that they play really, really shite together. It just doesn't work, for fecks sake!

I wouldn't say 5 times :p but he's definately worth, by current prices, at least twice that amount. If someone came knocking with a figure of around £35M, it'd be damn tempting I'd think but it'd still get the knock back.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this Arsenal side is being built around Fabregas in the way it's previously been based around Henry and, before him, Viera.

This is where McClaren struggles as England manager, just as Sven did. He's willing to experiment, but when it matters, he always goes with the useless method that he thinks he should be using because it's expected, not with what works.
I'd love to see how Becks crossing to Crouch would work in the England set-up. Look back to the World Cup - it was a threat to the other teams (even though the ref's are bastards), and he can still get good crosses into the box. Put Stevie in the middle, with Hargreaves backing him up, and then get a flyer on the other wing. We can offer a good holder in midfield in Hargreaves, a good passer in Gerrard, speed on the one wing, accurate crosses on the other and a height man, and a poacher in the front. It offers so many options in just one formation.

We know that at some point, he's going to go, so it's something to plan for. Vieira said he was going to end his career here, and then promptly buggered off, which caused no end of problems. We've got him for at least another 5 years (which only takes him to 24/5  ) so he'll still be in his prime for someone else if he wants to go then, and we've got years to sort out the plan for when he does go.
Wenger won't let him go for any money at the moment.

Urgh, god yeah, that's the other thing - he'd come back, play well or score against a shitty little no-mark team and everyone would be calling for him to be Captain again, calling him Englands saviour and all that shite. He got dropped for one reason and one reason alone - constant poor form over a 2-3 year period.

I think Spurs are being very, very smart because simply put they've uncovered a rarity - a player who instantly made the massive leap from a lesser European league (coz the Bundesliga's poo innit) to the Premiership.
You look at some other people who came over here and just fitted in straight away - Kuyt, Van Nistelrooy, Drogba - but then look at people like Shevchenko and Henry who took so damn long to even come close to finding some form and Spurs realise that they've got a potential gem on their hand so, if any club wants him, they're goiong to have to spend some serious wonger because Spurs can search high and low and maybe not find another Berbatov... especially not for £10-11M that they paid. Talk about fucking bargain.
Keane.
People get a feel he's takin them places.
I'm reserving judgement until after THIS season, it's all well and good having a very firmly disciplined club in the Championship but how will he/they fare in the Premiership when things don't go their way? I can't see it lasting maself... hope not anyway.
There's a chance he'll get noticed more at Newc at least.

Why? Pennant thinks too highly of himself right now. He should get his head down and work before being devastated at anything.
And I don't see what Matthew Taylor would bring to the team.

The Beckham move is a load of bullshit, doesn't anyone realise that it makes Mclaren look even more stupid? If he planned on using him, he should never have dropped him - fact is Beckham deserved to be dropped and deserves to stay there.
He commented on how good his form has been yet he hasn't even been to see him play. That's fucking retarded.
Beckham being in the squad but SWP not is pitiful, we'll lose again.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez wants West Ham striker Carlos Tevez and is willing to offload forward Craig Bellamy to raise part of the likely £25m asking price. (The People)
... I can dig it. Matty Taylor would possibly work well with Riise - both alternating between left back and left wing - in the same way that he and Aurelio were starting to.
Pennant can fuck off, he's played like 3 games this season where he's made an effort - Chelsea in the league at Anfield, Chelsea in the CL semi final and the CL final.

I really don't see the harm in it. We weren't winning anyway. And yeah, I don't like McClaren at all, but there's nothing stopping a manger dropping a player from the squad temporarily. McClaren never said Becks would never play for England again - everyone just assumed it'd be the end of his England career.
We're just going to have to see.

To be honest, I think SWP should have been first choice in Beckham's absence and certainly not Lennon, who runs around like a headless chicken. In my opinion, Lennon is as talented as Stuart Downing. Unless he learns how to cross and make threading passes, and not be easily dispossessed, then I will change my mind. It seems all Lennon has to his game is speed and nothing else.

Honestly I don't know why Beckham shouldn't be in the squad. If a manager picks purely on reputation - he's in. If he selects only the most experienced players he's got a shout. If he picks on the basis of form - he's most definitely in.
There's no excuse for not picking him. Even if he's just a squad player he'll be a great personality to have around. He'll be a great influence on the younger players no doubt.

Roman Abramovich has reportedly told Chelsea he will no longer spend his billions on the club.
The Russian owner has, according to The Sun, decided that he no longer wants to be a key decision maker and believes the club should operate as a proper business - meaning they will have to generate their own transfer budget like most other clubs.
That throws into doubt the future of stars Frank Lampard and John Terry who are both negotiating new deals.
Abramovich, who revealed his plans at a meeting last Monday, has imposed a wage cap and with both England internationals unwilling to settle for less than they feel they are worth, Chelsea may decide to cash in this summer as both players have two years left on their current contracts.
The club are hoping to bring in three new players in the summer, but won't splash the cash on transfer fees as they have in the past.
Steve Sidwell has already joined on a free transfer from Reading with Claudio Pizarro of Bayern Munich set to do likewise, while Brazilian defender Alex will join from PSV in July for a fee of one dollar.
Please let it be true.

Congrats to Derby. Deserved the win.
I saw the last 20mins or so, WBA had so many chances and derby had one. Plus Derby were being right bastards with all their cramps flaring up and running to kick the ball away for time wasting at any free kick. Felt sorry for WBA.
I can't see the problem in it either. At least with Becks in the team, we actually qualified for the World Cup. We're looking useless for Euro 08 qualifying now, so why not bring him back. We can't get worse.
Exactly. Trying him again could pay off brilliantly, or leave us as sorry as we have been already. No lose.
im glad he's back. his work rate and commitment is and has always been brilliant and when he's on the pitch it always inspires the rest of the team to work that little bit harder.
Nah, he generally has an over-emphasised way of running to give the impression he's working hard in games. But really he's more likely to just jump out of tackles..
I do think he should be in the squad. And he'll probably have a very good game on Friday because he wants it so much and is playing better. So it should work out for us.
The annoying thing, though, is the Beckham saviour stuff has already started. He was named in the squad, and then all of a sudden he's a cert to play the next 2 games and get his caps up to 100 after that. And it's all about him. In an ideal world, he'd be just like any other player - i.e. not a cert, and if he underperforms for England, he'd be droppable without another huge story. Ah, if only that were the way.
Also, the whole "MacLaren eats humble pie" thing in the press is a pile of crap. Players get dropped and then get picked again ffs. It just has to be a huge media circus event because it's Beckham. As usual. Stupid media.

No thanks. Why the fuck would we want ol' glass hamstrings himself over Villa or Eto'o or even Tevez?
Speaking of that, I'm getting sick of reading X number of stories a day that start "Liverpool are to bid..." and then nothing happens! If you're to believe what's going on then we're actively persuing Gabrielle Millito, Dani Alves, Tevez and Eto'o and then there's Pedersen from Blackburn but that seems to be replaced with todays rumour... which I much prefer... of Florent Malouda from Lyon.
