This Lampard thing is all over the papers today. Apparently it's down to this UEFA rule that he can buy out the remaining two years of his contract as he's over the age of 28 (or something)... he's so gonna go unless Chelsea offer him about £150,000 p/w coz that's the sort of wage he'd be commanding (plus a massive signing-on fee) if he moves abroad. I hope he goes, the fat fucker. :D

Carragher SHOULD start regularly for England, no matter what sort of form he's in he never ever gets a fair crack of the whip.

And Messi can fuck off, we played amazingly in the first half and across two legs, they only showed up for a total of about 20 minutes. Sore losers much?

I hope we get PSV in the draw, get some much-needed revenge for last years knockout.

Was it bollocks, it was a typical OTT dive.

A lot of people rang in yesterday complaining about Rooney... well, what do you expect when he's playing out wide? He's no wide player, he needs to sit behind a proper centre forward but now it looks like he'll be playing up front on his own doesn't it? Larsson's off, Solskjaer's just had a clean-up operation on his knee/ankle (or something) and Saha is injured too.

Bollocks, you telling me he didnt twat him in the shin? It wasn't a dive it was making the most of a foul which he shouldnt have done but it was still a clear foul.

Larsson now has come out and said that if helsingborg had a replacement then he might of stayed, damn! WE could have loaned them a reserve!

Yep. Why do you have to go and get all theatrical?

Rons did get kicked in the shin.

But that was still a stupid theatrical dive. The kick didn't stop him or cause him to fall over. And I cringed so bad and screamed at the screen when he did it. Why? damn you WHY?

Rooney couldn't pass for shit.
Carrick couldn't pass for shit.
Nasty fall by Silvestre. :(

But all in all, YAY! :D

Oh also, that was a bit of bollocks ruling out Real Madrid's equaliser. Not that I care, but still.

What did the whistle go for? And the shot was struck perfectly into the bottom corner - no way Bayern would have saved that even if they are claiming they all heard the whistle.

I 100% agree, a dive is (A) going down when there is no foul and/or (B) going down and making the most of contact.

If there is a legit foul on you, you would be sent down in some way anyway - don't overstate it or you get marked as a diver like Andy Johnson is. This season he's been legit fouled in the box a number of times and not won penalties because he's now got the reputation as a diving funt.

Leeds boss Dennis Wise has told veteran Gary Kelly his career at the club is over. (Daily Mirror)

1. He would be excellent in the SPL
2. Untrue. Gary Kelly has said since the start of the season that this would be his last before he goes back to Ireland to play and concentrate on the charity in his sisters memory. He's having a retirement dinner at Elland Road and i'm very tempted to go. (problem is the £49 ticket price, even though i'd see a host of ex-players including the mighty Lucas and Big Jack doing an after dinner speech.)

Good. I did my first game on saturday, which was amusing. I've been assigned to the East Stand, which is where all the season ticket holders sit and cause trouble, which is nice. But it was fairly easy, and I watched the game most of the time. We're doing training to get us up to speed on what we need to do, and prepare us to take our NVQ level 2 in Spectator Management.

Innit, this is one of two things:

1. United ensuring he's tied to a long-term contract so that WHEN they sell him, they can command upwards of about £30M.

or

2. Him holding United to ransom, they wouldn't be where they are this season if it weren't for him... and he knows it... so he's basically said "pay me what I want or I'm fucking off to Barca or Real."

Either way, what a fucking cunt and I wouldn't exactly say it's a ":D"-worthy moment.

Not at this moment in time. In my opinion it would be more worth while money wise to keep him now earn money off sponsorship and merchandising, then when he's 28 sell him.

We are building a team around two players who will be the worlds best in a few years, that should hopefull make more people want to come and play for united.

Not exactly because i can see it working. He's said that one day he wants to play in spain, thats fine, but thats not going to impact on what fergie and the board do. At the end of the day i can see them paying him what he wants, whether its 90 grand a week or 120 grand a week. Fergie loves him and Rooney, he wouldn't let either of them go easily.

*Also as well, i have no doubt that barca or real would offer more money per week than united do, even if united give him 120 grand a week they would offer more. He wants to stay here for the time being, he has said that. I don't think his loyalty is in question.

Ok, so what you're saying is that FPR is bigger than Man United? That's what it all boils down to - regardless of ability, how hated he is, how over-rated he's been this season - for United to break their wage structure for one single player means that he is bigger than the club as a whole.

Every other time a player has had that mentality with Ferguson - notable examples being Beckham and, even moreso, Van Nistelcunt - they've been publically shown up and shipped out at the first opportunity.

Beckham and Van were different kettles of fish. Beckham was bigger than manchester united, he ws bigger than football in a sense and fergie didnt like that. Van Nistelrooy didnt become bigger than the club, he was unhappy that he wasnt playing and had a disagreement with fergie, different thing but again shipped out. Some people say that partly he left due to not getting on well with Ronaldo, that means fergie valued ronaldo more than our top goal scorer. Ronaldo is nowhere near in the same bracket as beckham was/is yet, he is not bigger than the club but he has been the driving force behind united this season and the main reason we are still in the position to win the treble

Van Nistelrooy DID take that attitude, he didn't play in the League Cup final and then he stormed off. That sort of a primadonna attitude is a sign of disrespect towards the club and so he went. I get what you mean - it's a different sort of dissent but the message is still the same "I'm more important than the team".

Eh? No, see Beckham thought he was bigger than United and thought he was bigger than football. So of course Fergie didn't like that - that is NOT the sort of attitude you want a player at your team to have. Which is why we got rid. No-one is bigger than the team.

There's the truth.

Fergie isn't shy of getting rid of anyone who thinks they are bigger than the club.

One recurring theme of Sir Alex Ferguson's management of Manchester United has been his view that no player is bigger than the club. He has consistently taken a "my way or the highway" approach in his dealings with players and the pressure of this management tact has often been the cause of many notable players' departures. Over the years players such as Paul McGrath, Paul Ince, Andrei Kanchelskis, Jaap Stam, Dwight Yorke, David Beckham, Gordon Strachan and more recently, Roy Keane and Ruud van Nistelrooy, have left the club after varying degrees of conflict with Ferguson. This disciplinary line that he takes with such highly-paid, high-profile players has been mentioned as a reason for the ongoing success of Manchester United.

Beckham thought he was bigger than Man Utd - demanding to be subbed off so he could go see his g/f justifies his earnings. I don't think so.

I seem to recall asking to have a weekend off as it was his eldest kid's birthday - which clashed with a major away game. Fergie put him in the squad that travelled, but never put him near the team.

You can also add the fact that Fergie went to a player's house found that 2 first team players were having a party and warned them that any nonsense would see them gone. One player took head the other went for a beer. The player's in question : Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharpe - you can work out who is who.

Fergie had warned Becks about his lifestyle and image, and Beckham concentrated on the football. Giggs is older and been around a lot longer than Beckham, and is still playing at the highest level. Beckham's jumped abord the easy money train when he should still be playing at the highest level.

No player is bigger than any team.

No, nor me. He seriously needs the rest. And the rest of the team needs to prove that they can function without him. It'll be good all round to be honest, as much as I worship the ground he walks on, he needs to rest himself. A completely fit and healthy Thierry Henry at the beginning of next season will be phenominal.

That's why I admire David Moyes too, he takes no shit. Can't remember who it was, but he told one of his players who had just been subbed and was moaning to "Sit down, or I'll fucking knock you down." really loudly, my mate heard it. Right next to the family enclosure too.

And one story, might have heard it hear actually, where he found out two of his Preston players were in a nightclub before a match so he drove down to the club and dragged them out by himself.

sunnydalehighdropout
March 10th 2007, 10:23 PM
My Dad was saying that he thinks Ronaldinho is now trying too hard to become the best player in the world, whereas if he just played the game how it comes naturally to him, he would become so anyway. Messi will become the world best player within a couple of years. The lad looks phenomenal.

Foo Fighters, United Kingdom
March 10th 2007, 10:32 PM
Ronaldinho is too jittery under pressure. All you need to do is close him down and he'll shimmy away possession. Trouble is, where do you play him now that defenders can contain his limited cut-inside-from-the-left-and-try-a-stupid-chipped-through-ball repetoire?

Messi - what is he, 19 years old? Fucking scary, that.

sunnydalehighdropout
March 10th 2007, 10:38 PM
You've a good point actually. He'd get eaten alive in a physical central midfield, and probably wouldn't adapt to the right too easily. His finishing can be a bit meh sometimes compared to a dedicated striker so playing him upfront wouldn't quite be as effective.

EDIT - Messi is about 19, yes.

Foo Fighters, United Kingdom
March 10th 2007, 10:41 PM
The best thing that could happen to Ronaldinho is for him to get old and lose his pace and resign himself to the space behind the forward line. Maybe then he'll stop fucking around in the box for 10 minutes prior to falling over or losing the ball or fucking up a slotted pass.

sunnydalehighdropout
March 10th 2007, 10:44 PM

But he's always capable of a bit of magic regardless of pressure the opposition's defence is putting him under. You wouldn't have made the same comment about him last season because he just didn't waste possession that much and played much more freely. His performances against Chelsea in last season's CL illustrate that he's much more of a player than the supposed one-trick pony you've described. I don't think it's about defences finding him out, it's just he's nowhere near his best form at the minute.

For sure! Mourinho, same as Ferguson, will have been more unhappy with having to squeeze another match it than Jol and Southgate.

As much as I don't think Chelsea deserved the replay... Spurs didn't deserve a clear victory simply because they went 3-1 up, were absolutely cruising and creating lots of good chances and they STILL managed to fuck things up and as soon as the equaliser went in they never stood a chance in hell of doing anything because their two best players (Berby and Lennon) were already off.

Why is that you take Berbatov off and Spurs go shit?

The Times apparently blew the lid off why John Terry's contract negotiations have stalled...

Apparently, he and his people sat down to discuss a contract that would keep him at Chelsea past his 35th birthday, something like 9 years long, but it had a very interesting clause. No matter who Chelsea signed during that time and how much they were paid, Terry's wages would ALWAYS be more.

So, at the moment, his wages would have to top the £120,000 that Shitchenko and Ballache are on and, when they sign a player who earns more than Terry, he gets an automatic wage increase. No questions asked.

Chelsea understandably weren't so keen on the idea.

The BBC reported that Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Chelsea were set to agree a wage-cap of £100,000. PLEASE DO! I don't want Premiership wages to spiral into ridiculousness (well, not any more) like Serie A and Primera Liga did. It would also seriously damage negotiations for Terry, Fatpard and FPR.

It's hardly surprising really, he's been scoring a great range of goals and he gets the ones that count - the little 2 yard tap-ins in the 88th minute after he's played a shit game.

How nuch did they pay for Denilson? Wasn't it about £10M or something?
That's what you want from a striker. They're there to score goals, no matter how good or crap they've played.

Nope. £3.4m :D

Yeah but if he made one mistake, people would go on about bentness.

If he had a blinder, there would be issues. But I reckon we'd forgive in the long run as long as he brought that back to United.

Nah, I know that Benitez won't leave us for anyone just yet. I'm sure that, in the future, he will do because it's the ultimate management job for him... but he's got a plan at Anfield and he's gonna see it right through, especially now we've got extra cash to splash.

I just want him to go so this can all end, his bumboy players can follow him and Chelski can fall back into mediocrity where they belong. It's coming to something when a team with less history than Everton thinks they're something special.

As much as I like the guy, I could totally understand it. He's been given a reasonable financial backing and he's bought some horrendous turkeys, especially up front.

The likely replacements are, allegedly, Allardyce (hahaha, never gonna happen) or Jewell (now that I could see happening).

Yeah, I like Pearce. (Possibly the only thing I like about Citeh). But you're right, he hasn't proven himself at all. And then he's insisting on being England manager while he can't pull out the results consistently?

Yeah, I think Benitez is a pretty big Real fan - he used to manage them, technically, although that was the youth side. :o

I feel dead sorry for Pearce, it all started on a big adrenaline rush run of winning for him and it's been downhill a lot since then. Dunne and Barton were both right over the weekend when they said that 99% of the squad doesn't give a shit. The only players that seem to try are probably Weaver, Richards, Dunne, Distin () and Barton. The rest of the midfield and forward line are just too content to sit back and get paid.

It's at times like this I wish I was a sports journalist so I could translate things from Bollockese into English.

http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/13032007/1/lampard-quit-blues-report.html

I'm taking that article, see, and translating it into proper English...

Frank Lampard has reportedly threatened to spit his dummy out and go home if he isn't able to hold Chelsea to ransom by the end of the month.

According to a poncy newspaper that's far too large, the should've-been-dropped-from-the-England-team midfielder is having a hissy fit because Chelsea refuse to give in to his outrageous wage demands and constant craving for pies. He is considering taking his ball and going home.

According to yet another really stupid FIFA transfer rule, Lampard can use some of his vast wealth (which, of course, isn't enough already) to buy out his own contract and then whore himself out across the whole of Europe where he would demand an outrageous salary, far more than the fat turd is actually worth, along with a multi-million pound signing-on fee.

Lampard is threatening the afore-mentioned sandy vagina incident if Chelsea haven't lost their spine and caved in to his demands by the end of March - thus paving the way for him to go be a fat cunt in some other country.

Over-rated attacking side, Barcelona, and prima-donnas extraordinaire, Real Madrid, have both declared that they have more money than sense in the past and unchallenged non-cheaters, Inter Milan would also be interested in a move.

Chelsea executive, Peter Kenyon, got sick of speaking to Fatpard's agents because they always seemed to manage to work KFC and lard into the conversation.

The news sounds awfully familiar to when John Terry proved what a money-grubbing little prick he is over the weekend when he too demanded a contract worth far more than it should be. What a cunt, eh?

Both Terry and Fatty are reportedly upset that perma-wasters, Michael Ballack and Andriy Shevchenko, earn more than them.

That was fun. :D

Christ, that was a good free-kick... but what an arrogant cunt. I srsly want to smash his face in with a dirty brick.

Bob Paisley, the greatest manager in English footballing history.
Matt Busby.

All of them, no exceptions.

Pffft, doubt it!

Interesting, these details of a divorce came almost exactly 24 hours after he was spotted acting rather suspiciously with a 23 year old Russian socialite and, when the Mirror tried to print the pictures, they were suddenly gagged.

Great little piece by the fantastic Oliver Holt (sports writer of the year, AGAIN!) about Carragher. Basically he says that the English player performance of the season has to be Jamie against Barcelona and remarks that, while he may not be as good on the ball as Ferdinand, since when has that helped England lately?

Exactly, Terry's comfortable enough on the ball so get a REAL defender alongside him, Quiffy, you spineless turd.

It was a bit boring. But I like how we were able to pass the ball around cos no-one was closing us down! Ronaldo scored a great free-kick. But WHY the face afterwards??

Lawrenson made a good point when he said we could be looking at the future of football.. That's what footie would be like as a non-contact sport. Ew.

i'll never understand Premiership and European football, the way players are allowed so much time on the ball. just look at the Spurs Chelsea match last weekend, in the first half spurs had 2 men closing down every chelsea player. Chelsea were fucked. why can't it always be like that?

... and I bet he listens to them too. Honestly, what a crock of shit, for all his faults - at least he tries his best in every game that he plays. That's a damn sight more than can be said about half the rest of the squad. Gerrard + Barton in the middle would be a great balance of attacking sexiness and defensive ankle biting. Gerrard doesn't have any beef with Barton, they're both good mates and I bet it's the same with Rooney - Liverpool lads and all that, I'm sure they just brushed it off... I've got Ring of Fire stuck in my head. Why must Liverpool thieve great songs to sing as their own?

[Celeb Fame Academy. Colin Murray ('pool fan) was singing it last night.
Note: Ray Stubbs is SO cringeworthy to watch bouncing around. Arrgh!]

My favourite United one is the Glory Glory Man Utd song from the 90's. Probably for nostalgia. Ahhh.

Our last cup final song was gay. It was with that Striker fellow. Cup final songs were generally full of cheese and a point of embarrassment for teams. I will always love Glory Glory Man United though and know all the words. Regularly play it on my mp3 and instantly smile. :D

Your team robs good ones. You'll never Walk Alone (obviously) and Ring of Fire (it's a great song).
