Penalties awarded at home:
Arsenal - 6 for, 1 against.
Chelsea - 1 for, 0 against.
Liverpool - 1 for, 0 against.
Man United - 3 for, 2 against.

They showed replays of the cup game last season when Dowd didn't give Wigan THREE blatant penalties against Arsenal.
Yeah, but I bet they didn't show any examples of penalties against Wigan that weren't given, did they.

Yep, and Paul Jewell is spot on. If Dowd reports him for swearing then he will report Dowd. Cant have double stadards which is too true. To be honest Dowd is shit.
Absolutely mate, I couldn't agree more with Dave Whelan - if a player swears at the ref or his linesmen, he's up on a misconduct charge in front of the FA and will either see a yellow or a red card. Refs should be the same.
I thought Jewell restrained himself quite well in the interviews. I would have being swearing every other word.
Deffo, he got over his frustration and disappointment in a heated way but without being abusive.

Just when you thought it was safe to assume it might be open in time... (http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/13022007/2/photo/legal-dispute-reportedly-threatens-wembley-fa-cup-final.html)
The much-delayed rebuilt Wembley Stadium may not be ready in time to stage the FA Cup final on May 19 because of a legal dispute between contractors.
The Guardian newspaper reported on Tuesday that an impending legal case involving Wembley contractor Multiplex and one of its subcontractors Honeywell could delay the staging of test events.
The newspaper said the dispute had delayed progress on the stadium, which has cost over 750 million pounds.
Work was originally due be completed by January 31, 2006, but repeated delays, including a 50 tonne steel roof girder slipping out of place, forced the FA to abandon the stadium's fanfare opening and move the 2006 FA Cup final back to its temporary home of Cardiff.
FA chief executive Brian Barwick said last week that everything was "on track" to host the FA Cup on May 19 at Wembley but pointedly added that there were "no guarantees" it would be ready on time.
The last match played in the old stadium was in October 2000 when England lost 1-0 to Germany.
The planned test events need to be held at Wembley before the stadium is granted a health and safety certificate with an Under-21 international between England and Italy provisionally scheduled to be the first "test" match there on March 24.
Erm, I heard a lot more than that... I heard that once you take ALL the costs into consideration, the actual total is somewhere between £900M and £1B.

Iron Maiden star captains Rangers (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/...st/6354785.stm)
Heavy metal legend Bruce Dickinson was at the controls as Rangers football club flew to Israel for a Uefa Cup tie.
The Iron Maiden frontman piloted a 757 jet from Glasgow ahead of Wednesday's match against Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Dickinson is qualified as a commercial pilot and regularly flies for UK-based charter firm Astraeus.
He specifically asked to fly the Ibrox men to the Israeli capital when he learned that the charter firm had landed the contract.
Rangers manager Walter Smith told the club's website: "I know their stuff quite well.
"I remember going to meet the band when they played in Edinburgh a few years ago.
"I would never have thought that Bruce would be flying our plane."
Iron Maiden with Dickinson at the helm are still going strong after two decades of hard rock and an estimated 80 million album sales.
Their hits include Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter, Run to the Hills, The Number of the Beast and The Trooper.
The band played the Glasgow SECC in December last year as part of a successful world tour.
Astraeus, based in Crawley, West Sussex, confirmed that Dickinson was at the controls of Rangers' jet

OH YEAH!! I forgot to say (well, apart from texting Dan, Ollie and Sarah)... I rang up TalkSport on friday evening and spoke to the delicious Andy Townsend. :D
They were talking about the state of the England squad and where the blame lies, what can be done to sort it out, etc.
My point was about when clubs sell English players and try to make a horrendous markup, ie, when Arsenal wanted to sign Curtis Davies. Wenger, as big a prat as he may be, identified a promising, young ENGLISH defender as the heart of his defence with Kolo Toure... and then West Brom started asking for £10M/ WANKERS!!!
:)
Also, heard an interesting thing last night on, that's right... TALKSPORT... they were on about season ticket prices!
Man United's season ticket price is about £530, I know that Liverpool's is about the same price... and Leeds United are STILL going for over £700!!

Yeah, that's it. But I've seriously never been to a match where the Stewards don't actually watch the game and constantly watch the crowd instead. Except me, when I go to watch Exeter, I tend to watch the crowd for something interesting to do...

Yeah, Bent's the same. It used to happen occasionally when teams didn't want to sell their players - they'd hike the price up and no one would bid at all because it was a clear message they weren't for sale. Now, with Chelski money, anyone's available at stupid prices, and clubs will see what they can get. Overpay for Bent, and you can get two players to fill the gap.

"There was a great hullabaloo over Obafemi Martins' goal against Spurs last month, timed at 84mph, with Telegraph journalist Henry Winter speculating that it could take the crown," writes Archi Campbell. "However, I remember a goal by David Trezeguet for Monaco against Man Utd in the Champions League quarter-finals of 1998 that was timed at 96mph. This would also be faster than Nicky Summerbee's 87mph shot on Record Breakers, which is often given as the fastest shot ever. Was Trezeguet's shot really that fast, and if so, why does everyone seem to ignore it?"
Article continues
"There's no official record," explained the Football Association's historian David Barber when quizzed, but we knew our readers weren't going to be palmed off so easily. Therefore, armed with a toothcomb, our archives and a handy list of humdingers measured on the Sky Sports Replay 2000 tracking machine, we can provide you with the most authentic - if unofficial - list of heavy hitters at our disposal.
First off, three things: Martins' goal is only the ninth hardest shot recorded; Summerbee's effort was obviously not in a competitive match so we'll ignore it; and Trezeguet's thunderbolt at Old Trafford can only have been ignored because it was in European competition - but it was recorded at 96mph, putting him third on our list.
Pipping Trezeguet, however, is David Beckham (the only player to appear twice in our top 10), who smashed home a 97.9mph effort of his own against Chelsea on February 22 1997. That might top our list of powerful goals, but there is one harder shot - recorded by Sky's fancy device - that puts it well and truly in the shade. Step forward ... Sheffield Wednesday's David Hirst, who drilled a 14.8-yard howitzer against the crossbar at a whopping 114mph during a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal on September 16 1996. Therefore, our top 10, as it stands, is ...
1) David Hirst - 114mph (for Sheffield Wednesday @ Arsenal on September 16 1997)
2) David Beckham - 97.9mph (for Man Utd v Chelsea on February 22 1997)
3) David Trezeguet - 96mph (for Monaco @ Man Utd on March 19 1998)
4) Richie Humphreys - 95.9mph (for Sheffield Wednesday v Aston Villa on August 17 1996)
5) Matt Le Tissier - 86.8mph (for Southampton v Newcastle on January 18 1997)
6) Alan Shearer - 85.8mph (for Newcastle v Leicester on February 2 1997)
7) Roberto Carlos - 85.2mph (for Brazil v France on June 3 1997)
8) Tugay - 84.2mph (for Blackburn @ Southampton on November 3 2001)
9) Obafemi Martins - 84mph (for Newcastle @ Tottenham on January 14 2007)
10) David Beckham - 80.5mph (for Man Utd @ Derby on September 4 1996)

Ye its only a game, but a game worth a lot of money to the club and more importantly the business. The end of the day fergusons not going to be around for much longer, if Ronaldo stays past him going then the board will have a bit more to do what they want. So if the player in question is winning you trophies on his own, earning you millions of pound in merchandise and sponsorship then you going to pay him more. And especially the way footie wages are going now, its only going up.

It's such an Andy Johnson thing to do, ANY contact results in an I've-been-hit-by-a-missile-type fall. If there's a legit foul, just fall over normally... don't throw the arms to the sky, don't open your mouth wide as the Mersey tunnel and shout at the ref and, worst of all, DON'T INSTANTLY FUCKING LOOK AT THE REF!! if it's a legit foul you are entitled to claim whatever you need to get the ref to recognise that fact.
There is a difference between making the most of a foul and going down under any contact whatsoever.

I see what you mean but personally I disagree - I know there's a difference but that very reason is why Andy Johnson has a bad reputation and never wins penalties now... because when he gets a legit foul on him, he goes down and it looks like a dive and so the ref thinks he has taken a dive.
For me, if it's a clear, obvious foul then you just go down and the poxy European theatrics doesn't even enter your mind because what you're focussing on is chasing the ball, the shot you're about to make, planning your next cut inside or whatever. What Baptista did there, to me, screams that he was waiting for contact so he could make that fall.

"Simulation" is a poxy term, it could mean two things really:
1. A total dive; no contact made whatsoever.
2. Making the most of minimal contact in an attempt to make it look more serious than it is.
They're both lousy things to do.

A straight-up dive is going down with no contact and simulation is greatly over-stating how much contact has been made... so a slight knocking of feet becomes a wild, late hack around the knee.

Problem is, as I'm sure a ref like Bex can appreciate, is that the rules have got to be set in the perfect world, ie, as if they are 100% adhered to and never, ever missed or misinterpreted or whatever and we all know that's never gonna happen.

Perfect world  Sometimes the rules are hard enough to follow as it is, without making them any more ambiguous. If the refs get more rules to use at their discretion, we'll get even more diverse decisions.
but because refs miss these things doesnt mean that the players should start diving to get their penalties, that is why penalties get given for blatent dives.
No, you're right. It doesn't.
I wonder if a dive panel could be set up for after the games. Maybe that would make players think twice about it.

i think thatd be a good idea, but i reckon theyd be soft, didnt rivaldo just get a slap on the wrist for his? they probably wouldnt think twice either if they could come up with hilarious excuses like his. itd be a start if more refs started booking people for dives

Fecking stupid penalties.
If he'd missed from there, he should really have been shot several times.

Adebayor was completely offside then... but nevermind.
3-1's a bit unreflective though, it implies Bolton got fudged and they didn't at all. From a "neutral" point of view, heh heh, that was a solid cup tie.

It was a great cup tie to be honest. Had pretty much everything.

4 goals.
2 missed pens.
A red card.
A hilarious dive.

i have only known the score at two points, when someone said bolton had equalised i assumed it was 1-1 and when JTeeman said 3-1 just then. so you really only needed to look at this last page :p

add in 2 shots off the woodwork and a missed open goal. and played in a fairly good spirit for the most part(unusual for Arse-bolton games)

No, but did you see them at the end, especially when Fat Sam shared a laugh with Pat Rice? Even they knew it was a cracking tie.
