And Crazy Jens won't be rushing out to get a copy...

To be honest, I'm not fancying books from player who are 24 or 25 who would like to tell me about their big experience. When I consider my age (37) I would have a lot more to tell. It seems to be an English habit, to come out with books that nobody really needs.

Pressley's signed for Celtic

Celtic win race to sign Pressley

Celtic have won the race to sign Scotland defender Steven Pressley.
The former Hearts captain, 33, who had also undergone a medical at Charlton, was unveiled at a news conference after signing until May 2008.

Pressley began his career with Celtic's city rivals, Rangers, but was attracted to the Scottish champions' status.

"I'm passionate about my football, regardless of who I play for, and hopefully that commitment will endear me to the Celtic faithful," he said.

Pressley had held talks with new Charlton manager Alan Pardew on Thursday.

But Celtic's need for defensive cover had become more pressing with this week's confirmation that Bobo Balde had suffered a broken leg. Steven has shown over the years that he is an exceptional leader

And it was Gordon Strachan who won the signature of a player who had also been linked with Southampton, Derby and Leeds.

Strachan was a team-mate of Pressley's at Coventry and knows his qualities well.

"He has shown over the years that he is an exceptional leader and that is the kind of player we need here," he said.

Pressley had undergone a medical at Charlton on Thursday before making his choice known.

His agent, Blair Morgan, told BBC Sport: "It was a really, really difficult decision.

"He had two fantastic offers from two good clubs. Charlton were really brilliant, but the lure of European football next season won the day."

Scotland international Pressley was a free agent after coming to an agreement to leave Hearts earlier this month following his criticism of majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov.

Pressley also claimed there was "dressing-room unrest" at the Scottish Premier League club.

Pardew, who replaced Les Reed as manager of Charlton on Christmas Eve, had thought there was a "good chance" he could win Pressley's signature but realised there was severe competition.

"What I like about him is he is a leader," the Charlton manager had said.

"I think we have got some very good centre-halves here, but he comes into a pack where we need characters and leadership and that is one thing that attracts me to him."

Pressley is ineligible to play for his new employer before the opening of the transfer window in January.

He is also ineligible for Celtic's Champions League campaign this term, having already played for Hearts in the competition

I reckon Pressley's picture is now out of the Louden tavern Hall of Fame.

And I'm glad I ain't Pressley. The abuse he's going to get will be horrendus.

Firsty, Re: Crouch.

It'd be mean to sell him, he's a nice guy and he never moans - even though the other day he hadn't played for Liverpool for a full month and he just comes back and does what he does... but, that said, he looked pretty shocking but that's to be expected innit with a lack of games.

Signing Villa would be redundant - Crouch is third striker at the mo and the only way Villa would be a worthwhile signing (as far as I can see) is if we changed formation to what Chelsea used to do - Bellamy wide left forward, Villa wide right forward and Kuyt up the middle. That'd be fucking sweeeeeet... but i cant see it happening really, unless Benitez realises that Pennant probably isn't gonna work out.

They really don't look all that special this season. You look at Chelski's performances, and they've scraped a few results this season - most recently against Wigan. They lose a key player like Terry, and they'll suffer. United have been playing fairly confident football, and they're doing well. Chelski look very, very naff, and bloody jammy.

gutted

Referee Ian Williamson abandoned Saturday's relegation Sixfields showdown after 67 minutes with The Lions leading through an 11th-minute Poul Hubertz goal.
The match had been played in driving rain, and although there was some water on the playing surface, Mr Williamson called the match off to the utter disbelief and fury of the Millwall camp.
Arguably the official should have at least delayed proceedings for a few minutes to see if the rain stopped and then made a decision. Needless to say, within 90 seconds of the premature final whistle being blown, the rain had stopped.

Hahahahahaha, Fulham's second goal was awesome... Essien, Drogba and Ballack all completely fucked up when trying to clear it. Awesome stuff.

I have a ticket... for the Liverpool/Chelsea match at Anfield... and I feel rather good about it now. Chelsea are a shade of the team they should be.

Also, Joe Cole out for the rest of the season? Mourinho sounds like he might even sell him by calling him "an injury forever" and his post-match injury was brilliant, such a defeatist. :) :) :)

Anyone read that story about Lampard?

ENGLAND star Frank Lampard plays really dirty — by dumping a mountain of rubbish outside his posh home.

The Chelsea ace’s foul littering following a massive family Christmas party has left his neighbours disgusted.

Lampard, 28, could even face prosecution by his local council after the junk spilled on to the road and obstructed traffic.

It has built up since Christmas, when Lampard and fiancee Elen Rives, 29, invited friends and relatives to his £4.5million home in Chelsea, West London. He even got celebrity chef Marco Pierre White in to do the catering.

But it meant piles of rubbish. Neighbour John Hancock said: “There must be 50 bags and boxes piled up. It took up a whole side of the road.

“Nobody can drive past without swerving on to the other side of the road. The pile is foul and could attract rats. It’s an eyesore and a filthy way to behave. Surely with all his millions Frank could afford a skip.”

A spokesman for Lampard said: “It’s Christmas and all Frank and Elen have done is put out their rubbish.

“It may be a big pile but that’s because they had such a massive family Christmas.

“They had lots of children in the house and wrapped lots of presents.

“Every family throws their rubbish out.”

We need some of our players to recognise that Arsenal don't need to play pretty football every week. I thought that was what he bought Baptista for anyway. And I've seen Hleb play well down the wing, he just seems to have forgotten how.

I decided years ago Wenger should buy Wright-Phillips. That'd solve a lot of problems.

The Beast has been so disappointing. How the hell did he score so many for Seville? Shocking. Alialdire should never wear an Arsenal shirt again. Stokes, Lupoli or Bendtner would be a better choice.

I honesty think we're missing Reyes alot. Yes he dived, yes he was a bit of a twat, but he gave us width and forward thinking. SWP would do the same now. I'm beginning to wonder if Wenger isn't obsessed with finding the "next big thing". If Cole hadn't gone to Chelsea with Gallas in return, he would have bought some 16year old. It's worrying.

True.

Thing is, Walcott will be a good player, and Fabrigas will continue to develop into an amazing player, but it's all very well keep planning for the future, but hopefully without letting the present go to complete pot. I think we got the better end of the deal with Gallas to be honest, but he needs to be fit again, just to get some kind of structure into the back line.

Le Guen's asking for full scale riots up there. Doesn't matter who you are, you can't just ostracise your captain and pretty much most popular player.

What I like about Le Guen is the fact he's got rid of a lot of the deadwood - players who weren't going to get a game, but were happy to collect a pay packet (e.g Pierre Fanfan, Malcolm & Andrews) Le Guen went and released them.

There was a problem with Ricksen at the start of the season - he's on loan with Zenit St Petersburg and looks like staying there.

Problem is, he's got no-one around him that understands the Scottish game or the fans mentality.

Look at the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool - Wenger has Pat Rice as his assistant, Muriniho has Steve Clarke and Benitez has Alex Miller - the managers may not understand or get the fans demands, but the assistants do and that is a big help for the managers.

Le Guen defends Ferguson decision

Paul Le Guen says he stripped Barry Ferguson from the captaincy knowing that he has put his own future as Rangers manager on the line.
But he told BBC Sport that he had been frustrated that the Scotland skipper was not following his instructions.

"I have been patient, but I know what is good for the team," said Le Guen after the 1-0 victory over Motherwell.

Asked whether Ferguson would now be sold, he said: "It remains to be seen. It depends on my own situation."

The decision has stunned fans and some protested inside and outside Fir Park against the dropping of such a Rangers diehard.

"Fans must be aware that it's not a whim," said Le Guen.

"But Rangers are more important than Paul Le Guen and more important than Barry Ferguson."

Le Guen suggested that Ferguson had not been setting the right example to the team.

He and the midfielder have recently fallen out about the importance of the captaincy, which the 28-year-old held so proudly.

Le Guen had also been angry that Ferguson had arranged a Christmas night out for the players against his wishes.

But he insisted said that the Scotland captain would be asked to continue to train with the first-team in an attempt to win his place back.

However, it may be no coincidence that the decision was taken at the opening of the January transfer window.

Gavin Rae, who has been a fringe player at Ibrox, captained Rangers against Motherwell.

"He is clever and puts the team first," explained Le Guen.

"Barry is talented and I know that the captain I had was less talented and that we had a less talented team, but I know it was the right decision.

"We showed great team spirit against Motherwell and that does not surprise me as we have good guys in the team."

It is yet unclear whether Rangers chairman David Murray knew of Le Guen's decision.

However, Murray has flown back from France to hold crisis talks with Ferguson.

It is understood that the player left Monday's meeting with Le Guen in tears.

It appears that views between the Frenchman and Ferguson became heated after the midfielder was told he was being dropped for the visit to Fir Park.

Ferguson then refused to train with the first-team squad and asked for a black bag with which to gather his belongings.

Former Rangers striker Billy Dodds knows Ferguson well.

"Barry turned up for training, put his training gear on and was summoned to the manager's office," said Dodds.

"He was told he would never play for Rangers again as long as Le Guen was manager.

"Barry asked the reason why and was told he just did not get on with him - and that's incredible.

"In football, you have to play with people you don't get on with for the good of the team."

James has been the best, without a shadow of a doubt, but he always shits it for England so I think it's about time that Carson got the nod in next months friendly.

Ooh the pen for Arse's first goal - that's another one of the decisions that annoys me with the new offside rules. Van Persie was in an offside position, but not "active". The ball is flicked on - He runs for it. If he gets the ball, the linesman would have to flag for offside. But just before he may have got the ball, he was fouled and a pen given/man sent off.

If he's not active - how can he get a penalty?? I know it's the rules, it just seems... bizarre.

That's where the rumour of Reina being used as a part-ex for Villa came from.

I really, really like Carson. He's proven himself this season - he's consistent and can stay fit unlike others (ie, Kirkland) and I think he's our long-term keeper in Rafa's eyes.

And yeah, it's Watford, Charlton and Wham for the drop. The only possible excapee is Wham but I can't see them pulling their fingers out their collective arse in time - even with an alleged £20M transfer kitty... who's gonna wanna join them right now?

Reo-Coker is proper wank, the thought of him in an Arsenal shirt should be making you quiver with fear. He's been beyond awful this season, last year really was an adrenaline-fuelled fluke for practically that entire squad.

Mourinho taunts Man Utd over lead

Blah blah waffle waffle wah wah

surely it is chelsea who missed the opportunity to catch up oh learned special one? And if 6 points is nothing, I'd also like to point out to old Jose that neither is 8 points. Watch your backs too mofos.

Oh and can hardly call the Poolahrouz injury a bad thing.. he is utter shite.

Yeah, I don't quite understand the team in second having a go at the team in first... you're 6 points behind, have NO games in hand and are playing pretty hit-and-miss at the moment. It is always better to have the points in the bag, even if Chelsea did have games in hand - they're shit it a few times so far this season when United have dropped points. Yesterday was a prime example - United in a shock draw, all Chelsea have to do is stick one poxy goal past Villa and they can't even do that.

Heh, we're only 8 points behind Chelski now too. :D

Exactly why they should watch their backs and stop talking rubbish about us. :D

isn't it fun replacing parts of names with Poo and Tart and stuff? :D

oh, and i just spent half an hour counting so i could work out a % of correct predictions, and you have exactly 50%! although TimesfooAll has 52.3% so if he had started from the beginning he'd be in the lead :P

If we manage to beat them at Anfield (I shall be there, YAY) then it'd be velly interesting indeed.

Baros still works his arse off.

Now, there's something you don't see everyday.

Baros is, on his day, one of the most lethal finishers in the league... it's a shame that 99% of the time he's lazy, runs with his head down and can't seem to hit a cows arse with a banjo from 5 paces.

It would be so funny if Chelsea didnt finish in the top 2. Mourinho would probably leave and maybe Roman.

Mourinho's off in the summer anyway - the only chance he has of staying is if he wins the Champions League and I don't think they will.

I don't know. They might be able to sneak it if all the other good teams drop out. It is the only reason he won it with Porto in the first place.

I don't think the Chelsea board are too happy with him at the moment anyway.

Given the cash they've splashed, they shouldn't be picking up 3 points out of 9 against Wigan, Reading and Villa

That's the problem with him in that position - it's all about money and instant success. Abramovich put the money in and the big mouth manager thinking he could have the most successful team in the world all of a sudden, and Chelski have come up lacking in several areas, most obviously, the CL. As soon as it starts going even the slightest bit wrong, then that's when managers are pushed out.

If you look at managers like Fergie and Wenger, whether you like them or not, their teams have got them in for the long haul, not reliant on whether they get instant success year after year. Which is why they're still managers in their clubs and short of footballs biggest form disaster, will not get pushed out.

Yeah, that too - plus when you've invested a total of arouond £800M in a team over the last two and a half years, two Premierships is a pretty fucking pathetic return. They should be pissing all over Europe.

There was a great little form table in the Mirror today showing how teams have done over the christmas games - United were top with 10 and I think Chelsea were mid-table with 6 points and barely any goal difference at all.

:)
