Mourinho won't drop Lampard, let alone sell him.

Bexster
October 27th 2006, 01:34 PM
He may not sell him, but he'll play less and less, and it'll piss him off.

Bud
October 27th 2006, 01:36 PM
I don't think so. With the sale of Duff he's obviously trying to go more central, espeically with Lampard, Essien and Ballack. In the big games, these three will play.

Shame watching them is nearly as boring as watching Bolton.

What does the future hold for two of his other golden bumboys then - Cole and Robben? Frankly, I don't see Robben staying over here too much longer - he's too big a ponce.

Bud
October 27th 2006, 01:41 PM
Cole and Robben are less important to Mourinho than Lampard, that's for sure. They'll get time from the bench, and against lesser teams.

Captain Stu
October 27th 2006, 01:44 PM
That's a damn shame, as much as I try to hate Cole (which is still possible because of his over-insistence on little poncy flicks) he's such a potent attacking threat, way more creative than Fatpard.

Robben can fuck off, he's a one-trick, showboating, diving cunt.

Maybe he'll start playing Cole off a striker?

Maybe he'll start playing Cole off a striker?

If they play one up, yeah, I think he's done that before at times when he had Robben, Cole and Duff to accomodate... but I can't see him doing that. Drogba's really found form in a 4-4-2 and he's not gonna drop him in favour of mis-firing Shevchenko so I reckon Cole might find himself alternating with someone.

rob3000
October 27th 2006, 03:08 PM
Rafa won't go. He's been in this position before, at some point in the past 2 seasons fickle fans have claimed he doesn't know what he's doing, and he's ending up winning a trophy at the end of the season. It'll pass.

If he played Cole hanging off Shevchenko, the amount of goals that the 2 of them would score and assist would outnumber all 3 relegated teams put together. It would be devestating.

It's exactly what Shevchenko has had at AC Milan with Bierhoff (99-00), Inzaghi (00-04), Tomasson (03-04) and Crespo (04-05). All of them were quicker than Shevchenko and could lay him off some good quality balls, and manage to use their pace to catch up to the level of the ball for if he didn't find himself in a scoring position.

And Kevin's description of Mourinho's new tactic is sopt on and shows why he is so highly rated, despite all the baffling tantrums. There is no team that he cannot find a formation and the players to counter.

This could work but those players you cited are different to Cole. They're all big lads, good finishers and great headers of the ball. If anything Shevchenko played off them. Those guys were target men - a sort of Peter Crouch except good.

That's what he hopes to achieve with Droggers and Shevvers up front. Except Drogba is way too selfish a player to work in that kind of system.

I know that Shevchenko is a terrific talent and proven at the highest level but for me there's only one logical explanation as to why Mourinho changed his unbelievably effective strike partnership of Crespo and Drogba: Abramovich wanted to buy the best Slavic player around. Buying old fogies for sinful amounts of money didn't work for Fiorentino Perez and I don't think it will work for Abramovich.

Yeah, it's all about politics and palling up to your mates. There was no need to change something that wasn't broken. Chelsea's league performances were the most clinical and effective football to be played in the Premier League. They just needed to alter their system (with the same players) to best suit European competition.

Back in 2003 when Abramovich took over, Ken Bates was thrilled at the prospect of investing his money in multiple academies and fielding "an entirely homegrown squad of winners by 2010". Like fuck that will happen now.

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is interested in taking over at Newcastle - and the Magpies are interested in talking to him. (The Sun)

I'd actually be happy with that. While he's no genius his ability to form a solid if unspectacular team is exactly what we need.

Stability is our most important aim right now.

Who would you play there instead?

Gonzalez, but he was injured last night methinks - his immense pace makes him tremendously effective but it also highlights why we need a good secondary left-back so we could push Riise onto the wing and stick Player X at the back... Warnock isn't good enough and Aurelio is a sodding winger who kids himself when he plays at left-back.

Hell, maybe even Aurelio could have played on the wing, he has a solid cross on him.

Or, if he's fit, even play Bellamy out there in an Henry sort of role - but, if you do that, Gerrard needs to play as an out-and-out winger. We can only afford to have one winger cutting inside (ie, Gerrard right ring free role) meaning we need a solid left winger to hug the line.

Bollocks to Zenden, cracking pass for Gerrard's goal but he's too slow 99% of the time. Right now, if fit, I'd even use Kewell  until Speedy is fit.

NO! ZE BACK LINE IS OUR ONE CONSISTENCY!!

There was an interesting piece in the Mirror yesterday, I might scan it if I remember when i get home, showing who has played in what position and how many times over Rafa's last 99 teams and the defense stats were awesome. Something like Finnan (86), Hyypia (85) and Carragher (86). :)

Sissoko showed yet again last night why he's his own worst enemy, too many classless tackles like a young Viera. Now, ok, he's only 21 - but when he's becoming a key player in our team, he has GOT to learn to control his temper and learn when to use a classy Alonso-type tackle... just poke the ball away from someone without clattering them.

My Dad also picked up on a good point, when he fouls someone - he just walks away, especially when the refs talking to him. He hardly ever (if ever at all) apologies, even just with a friendly wave, that he's done wrong and I think it's getting him a reputation as a prick and people will eventually start playing to that.

Benitez's problem is that he still doesn't know his best midfield, which is a shame. Although, in all fairness, Gerrard had a stonker last night but his passing was a bit lapse at times.

I won't hear a bad word said about Sissoko, he's great at what he does. Especially at so young, I find it rather incredible. The FA cup final against West Ham, Gerrard gets all the applause for that but Sissoko had an astonishing game, I'm happy for him to play every game. Not saying sorry is just his character, I have no problem with it.

It's gonna be my first live experiece of Europe with Spurs, which is abit pathetic really considering all you lot have witnessed your sides play in the CL year after year.

look out for the Flemish & Millwall flag in the Brugge end

though you might want to be careful, as this could happen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q4lgmPQ9wA :D
That is completely classic!!

I had a problem on PES5 online once, where I got a goal kick, and the attacking player coming back was on the bot path of the ball, so it knocked it off the spot for the goal kick and I couldn't take one. I was winning that match too

Arsenal are shite. Doesn't matter if they played the best football of their lives, they still couldn't get it in the back of the net. And Wenger says he's proud of them  WTF! GET IT SORTED YOU FUCKING MUPPETS

Rangers 2-0 Maccabi Haifa

Rangers defied domestic form again in the Uefa Cup with a deserved victory over Maccabi Haifa as the Glasgow side went clear at the top of Group A.
Nacho Novo broke clear after only five minutes to gather a Kris Boyd flick and his low drive deflected off Alon Harazi and past goalkeeper Nir Davidovitch.

A Boyd penalty was saved by the goalkeeper immediately after the break.

And he turned a Barry Ferguson drive against the post before before being beaten by a Charlie Adam spot kick.

Rangers had been forced to make a late change to their starting line-up after Lionel Letizi suffered a back injury during the warm-up.

Allan McGregor's return to the side meant it was all-change at the heart of defence.

Julien Rodriguez dropped to the bench, while Sasa Papac was cup-tied.

So Brahim Hemdani dropped back to partner Karl Svensson, while Jeremy Clement returned to midfield and Dado Prso replaced Thomas Buffel up front.

Rangers' re-worked defence were under immediate pressure when Xavier Anderson just failed to get enough on his header from seven yards following a Gustavo Boccoli cross.

But the Glasgow side soon found their feet and took the lead when Kris Boyd headed on a long ball out of defence from Allan Hutton.

Novo sped clear and his low drive deflected off Harazi and wide of Davidovitch.

Rangers were now on top and Davidovitch was forced to turn a looping Boyd header over the crossbar.

Novo fired into the side netting from a tight angle after the goalkeeper had flapped at a high ball under pressure from Prso.

But Haifa worked their way into the game and Boccoli fired straight at McGregor from 12 yards following one of their trademark quick breaks.

Barry Ferguson finished the first half in pain with what appeared to be a rib injury.

But, although Gavin Rae warmed up during the break, Rangers' captain started the second 45 and was immediately involved in a fine passing move that led to the award of a penalty kick.

Prso had appeared to be fairly tackled by Harazi and justice was done when Davidovitch stretched out one hand to block Boyd's poorly-struck spot kick.

The goalkeeper came to Haifa's rescue again by turning Ferguson's powerful drive from the edge of the box on to the outside of the post.

Skilful Haifa looked dangerous throughout without troubling McGregor until the goalkeeper did well to palm clear a ferocious drive from Maor Melikson from 12 yards after 72 minutes.

The match was held up for several minutes by a one-man protest against the Israeli regime.*

But Rangers' momentum was not disturbed and they wrapped up the points when Ferguson was felled in the box and Adam made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Re: the points...

I was reading how they work it out. You get points for domestic league and senior cup (in our case the FA cup) with league points worth 3 times more than cup. You have a country weighting depending on the strength of the league. The continental cup competitions also have points allocated to them with the European and South American competitions having a higher points value than the other ones.

Seville are top because they won the UEFA cup and so got a shit load of points. Barcelona despite winning the Champions league aren't top because I presume they didn't win as many games on there way to the final. Draws don't get as many points.

The barcodes are above Man Utd because they have played a lot of European games with the Inter Toto cup and the Uefa cup compared to United being seeded straight into the group stages this year and knocked out at the group stage last year.

That's from a guy off a Liverpool board.

1. (1.) Sevilla FC (290)
2. (2.) FC Barcelona (270)
3. (4.) Liverpool (267)
4. (3.) Milan AC (266)
5. (7.) FC Rapid Bucureşti (264)
5. (9.) FC Internazionale Milano (264)
7. (5.) Arsenal (252)
8. (8.) AS Roma (247)
9. (9.) Olympique Lyonnais (244)
9. (5.) Olympique de Marseille (244)

So you would presumably get more points from the UEFA cup anyway because there are more knock-out stages where you have to win to progress, or at least, there used to be? I remember Barca did draw a few games last campaign, but not that many.

And I liked the barcodes

I do see where you're coming from...and without causing offence, that's bullshit!
Shearers first season with us saw us finish second in the table and he missed a lot of that season with two injuries, Les Ferdinand also helped out then.
Shearer spent a total of over two seasons out with major injuries and we still earned respectable league finishes.

However, yes, we did relly heavily on Shearer and most of the time he didn't get the help that he needed, but to be honest wouldn't any team relly heavily on a Striker like him?

I never understood why Newcastle didn't sign a striker as sson as Shearer announced his retirement so that he could spend at least a year learning from him in training every day.

Rossi is a good striker - with no major experience and who is heading back to Old Trafford in Jan

Luque - Has done nothing since he joined

Ameobi - Has blown hot and cold too often.

I only saw the hightlights of the game last night - Couldn't nderstand why Newcastle played given the European game on thursday - but the service the left Rossi was shocking - I can't even recall Newcastle really testing the Sheff Utd goalie - aside from the chip which hit the bar and even then, that was a cross cum shot.

Ian Mc
November 5th 2006, 08:06 PM
Sheffield United deserved the three points, no doubt about it!
The reason we played on Saturday instead of putting it back was because our board would rather put the fitness of players at stake and bring in a few grand from TV money instead of giving them an extra days rest........I'm not going to use that as an excuse though.

To be honest, when Shearer announced his retirement, we didn't have much of a clue about who the manager was going to be and Michael Owen was expected to be fit. It's easy to forget that he's still apart of our roster.
I don't think the board were backing Roeder too well during the summer and then panic bought before the transfer window closed...Martins, give him time, could be alright, but ten million? I don't think so.....and he's not the out and out striker that is needed.

What I don't get is how we can be so inconsistent performance wise, we have played well this season, but there seems to be a lack of balance to the team. I still don't understand why Nicky Butt is playing for us never mind starting games, especially not along side Parker, why get rid of Bowyer and bring Butt back?
And Emre is so hot and cold...he's a typical Newcastle player!

Hometown club or not, the professional opinion of Newcastle must be really low if he chose to go to Middlesborough instead.

Luque is a proven team goalscorer in Spain, i think he needs a 10-15 match straight run in the team to fully integrate himself. I like Luque and think he can do the job.

Neither did I to be honest. As soon as they scored I thought it was over like it usually is with against them.

Dawson's goal came out of nothing and we looked a different team from then on. We seemed to grow in more belief and I started to believe we could win the game.

The whole defence was awesome today. King and Dawson were like a wall and I was particularly impressed with Chimbonda today. Keane probably edged it for MOM, he stood up when needed and led the fight back. I'm loving Berbatov, the guy just oozes class and its just about him adapting to the PL.

We rode our luck a few times but who cares....finally beaten Chelski.

No he really hasn't. He's either been thrown on for the last ten minutes in a losing team or gets one start every few months.

While playing for the reserves he's looked incredibly good, he needs an actual run of games.

Roeder also needs to realise Luque isn't a striker - he plays off the striker and likes to drift wide. If you play him upfront on his own then of course he's going to struggle.

Unfortunately Roeder clearly has his favourites within the squad who will play whenever fit. For whatever reason he dislikes Steven Taylor, Peter Ramage, James Milner and Albert Luque. If he's able to drop these players then he will.

Our tactics are to blame for our striker's ineffectivness. Roeder is an idiot.

He has our players lumping the ball up field to our strikers, regardless of who they are. Owen (5'8), Rossi (5'9) and Martins (5'6) are not going to be able to get on the end of long balls. They need it played to their feet.

Ameobi is the only player we have capable of playing like that, and he's had a hip injury for over a season now. Sibierski can win the ball, unfortunately the only thing he can do with it is head it wildly up into the air. He's useless.

Actually he's not. Luque is a proven assist-man who scores about once every 3 or 4 games at the most. He's not an outandout striker, and never has been.

At his best fr both Spain and Depor he either plays just off the striker, drifting around, or high on the left wing.

If we disallow that shit, why bother even watching footie at all?

Yes I guess you're right, definitely about Shepherd not having a clue about managers. Although I don't think Newcastle are regarded as a "selling" club. They generally hold on to their assets.

Best example was Gary Speed. Bobby Robson turned up to work one day to find that Gary Speed was playing for Bolton.

Bobby wanted to buy Miguel (Portuguese right back at Sporting I believe) and James Beattie. Sheppard goes out and buys Stephen Carr and Patrick Kluivert.

Roeder wanted to sign Huth, Sheppard wanted to sign Woodgate, so we lost out on both.

3. RE: Chelski losing... HAHAHAHAHAHA! Now just to lose but to have a legit goal disallowed and Terry questionably sent off!! :D
The problem there though is that Mourinho now has an "excuse". It'd be so much sweeter if they lost with no dodgy referee decisions

Newcastle ain't gonna do anything until Sheppard fucks off.

anyone see the coin incident with claus jensen and van persie, claus gets hit in the face and just sort of gets on with it, van persie gets hit in the back of the head and goes down like he was shot - either way though i hope the idiots who threw the coins are banned

Van Persie took a dive? NOOOOOO! NEVER!!!! :D

But yeah, the FA are looking into both incidents apparently... whether they actually catch anyone is an entirely different matter.

I know, I could have kissed Jensen on his big bald ugly head, I actually get pleasure from seeing the blue and white shite lose. :)

Tell you what, I am totally eating my words right now over Kuyt. I was very sceptical when we signed him but fark me, he's proving to be a complete player and he works well alongside whoever he's partnered with.

Another good signing, Rafa. :)

If our form carries on like this, I don't see why we can't take third. The game against Arsenal at the weekend is gonna be vital for both sides.

It's getting good up there now, in fact it's pretty tight all along the table - there seems to be pockets forming where several teams can jump several places if results go their way.

:p

In further detail:

- Chelsea - HAH! Come on you Lily Whites! Gotta say I really thought Robben's shot was heading right for the goal in the closing minutes and was mighty pleased to see it bounce off the post.
- haha at Chelsea defender (Ferreira?) when Keane's stepovers made him fall on his arse.

- West Ham's goal yesterday was class. From Etherington battling, through the 1-2 with Sheringham to the goal. Nice.
- I thought Arse should have had the penalty though.

- Well happy with our win, good performance. Vidic you beauty.

Even better was when someone played a massive long ball into the box and Keane just ran in front of Bouhlarouz (sp?) and chested the ball out of his way.

Keane and Lennon looked absolutely fantastic yesterday, good to see Lennon firing on all cylinders from an England P.O.V. :)

Etherington had a good one, which I like to see, I've been a fan of his since Spurs plucked him and Davies from Peterborough but he flits in and out of games too much for me. When he's on, he's awesome, but when he's off - he may as well be dead and buried.

And that was a definate penalty, no questions asked whatsoever. Which part of kicking someone squaa in the ankle in the box and making no contact with the ball whatsoever is a legit tackle?

Lolz at Wenger and Mouriniho!!! :D

West Ham deserved win, they wanted it more than Arsenal. Spector did slightly touch the ball before hacking down Hleb but after looking on the virtual thing on Sky the ref had 5 players between him and the ball, bad positioning but the actino was fast moving.

I don't rate Spector at all.

On paper, I think Wham (name nicked off Sarah :D) have got almost a really decent team:

Green, Konchesky, Ferdinand, Etherington, Reo-Coker, Mascherano, Bennayoun, Harewood/Ashton and Zamora.

I think if they got a good, experienced central-defender to partner Ferdinand (like how Rio Turdinhand benefited heaps from playing with Radebe) and a right-back, they'd be pretty sorted. They have a good attacking line-up, just need a bit of defensive stability.

Take it you mean West Ham, but yeah they have a sound side just definetly think the arrival of the Argies upset them. I'm a big fan of Reo-Coker, shame England seem to have too many cent mid players.
