Hey, Come Back is probably one of my favorite Foo songs right now, but I'm having trouble finding a performance where they played it. Did they ever play this song?

it was known that they don't play it live.
(something about the guitar parts?)
they played it live once or twice tho.
it's one of my fav songs too.

Such a shame, too. It's a great song to end the main part of the show with, before they 'come back' for their encore.

This (http://www.sendspace.com/file/janiad) is the only time I know of, that they played it. It's too complex to play live I believe.

Thanks, Mikey. That's very different from the studio version. The singing was great, even if Dave says it was hard, but the guitar parts really are missing something and the middle slow section which I love was so hurried, almost non-existent.
Can that be harder to sing than Best of You? Dave does that one all the time superbly.

It's the way they played it on the Million Dollar Demos. I like it alot more but it would be perfect with the acoustic shit in the middle.

The more I listen the more I'm liking this version. Never really got into the record version until I heard the accoustic bit.

I don't think they play it because of all the guitar parts that go with it. Not just the singing.
And now they're an 8 piece, and have Pat on 3rd guitar, it could be possible I reckon.

Now the biggest obstacle to playing the song is probably just the fact that they have other stuff they'd probably prefer to do.
It would've sounded a little bare and probably not good with just a 4 piece band.

I still maintain that the original version of Come Back (the Million Dollar Demos/Live version) is world's better lyrically than the final studio version. That being said, I still LOVE the final version.
However, something about that lyric 'Stuck in the middle, no ones making a move. I'm looking in and I've got nothing to lose (or prove, which ever)'... I dunno, just awesome.

This is a very n00bish question, (because yes I am a n00b :) ) but does that mean the full version of Come Back from the Million Dollar Demos is floating around? (I have a .zip someone posted on here with 1:32 of the song but that's it.)

I've said this before, with the extended lineup, really they have to do this. They've got three guitars to cover all the parts, as well as strings and keyboard. I'm sure there are other songs they'd prefer to do but imagine the breakdown with the acoustic band building up.
As for its place in the setlist.. I think it should definitely be the first song of an encore, because at that point people's interest in the band's set has increased because for most of them the bands return is a surprise. A majority of the acoustic set that they did in the 'orchestra' tour weren't very popular songs, but people still enjoyed it, especially when Dave gave a bit of an introduction to the song, hence if he spoke to the audience about the song I'm sure they'd give it their attention. It's not a very awkward song either in terms of time signature or anything like that, it's pretty easy to follow and has a great steady groove and I have no doubt people would enjoy the little tribal breakdown

Someone should have asked them to play it now that they have an 8 piece band when we could ask the Foos questions.... I hope they read the postboard cause I wanna hear it live...

I did very briefly mention the song to Pat but he didn't recall it being considered. I could have asked Dave but I asked him about "Exhausted" instead. That was a mistake yes.
By the way in regards to the people who speak about the first version of "Come Back", yes that version was great but its difficult to compare the two versions together because the final version on the album is almost a completely different song. The first version was a guitar heavy, more aggressive kind of hard rock song, whereas the version on the album is more of a dynamic, kind of experimental, epic sound.

About "Exhausted"?
Oh by the way I should have said as a preface, this was during the Australian Acoustic tour. He said that they did rehearse it many times with the extended lineup but it didn't work. I moaned in disappointment and pouted to his face and he laughed and said that they might try it at sound check on the day of that gig, but they didn't play it. Somebody from the crew I spoke to later said they did play it at sound check.

Exhausted is so good acoustically <3
I dunno if I'd want them to play it with a full band. It's so beautiful without although I can totally see some keyboards in there but nothing drastic.

"Exhausted" is a song that sounds amazing whether it is played electric or acoustic, for different reasons.
A standard acoustic band version of "Exhausted" isn't exactly epic but it sounds nice and really shows you great melody that the song has.
If they did it with the full line up with Cello, Keyboards, that would be killer. They'd play it a bit slower I imagine, with some quiet drums, maybe even brushes, the three acoustic guitars just gently picking and strumming the chords, maybe a Cello to emphasize the melody and some mournful vocals. And in the middle of the song, where the studio version usually has the wall of feedback guitars, they can have a buildup with keyboard or organ or something like that, kind of Pink Floyd esque.
I'm tempted to record a version myself just to imagine hah.
As for live versions.. well its a bit of a trippy, droning melody especially if one guitar picks the chords while another one bashes away on the riffs, but the song is pretty energetic as well, especially how the song picks up live towards the ending after the extended feedback session in the middle.

The only thing I couldn't really see working with an acoustic version of Exhausted would be the "chorus". That drop D riff just doesn't work for me on an acoustic guitar. Maybe they could have come up with something with the full band (keys, violin and all) but I just don't hear it.

Yeah I know what you mean but I reckon with some keys, and Cello, or maybe a violin might work better, to give it a little bit of a eastern/Led Zeppelin feel, maybe the violin would play it an octave higher or something. i can hear it in my head but i dont know how to describe it. nevermind. it probably wont ever happen.

Shit. They need to play that song acoustic now. I'll be sad if they don't :( They could beautify the chorus and make some variation
